Artwork and Design

At Labelpress and K-line Printing we work with both Apple Macintosh and PC computers to generate artwork for our clients who choose not to use the services of professional Graphic Designers. Film negatives are usually produced in accordance with our special requirements with our in-house Imagesetter.

If you choose to provide artwork that you have produced or that you have acquired from another source, you should be aware of the software that we have so that we are able to work with the supplied files.

Quark Xpress V4.1 (Mac)
Adobe Illustrator, CS2 (Mac)
Freehand (PC & Mac)
Corel Draw V8.0 (PC & Mac)
Photoshop CS2 (PC & Mac)

We can accept your files on a CD, and USD Drives or as a print quality PDF direct via email.

Files should be saved as open files which will allow changes and separations (where necessary).

If using Freehand or Illustrator we require artwork containing fonts to be saved as paths.

If your files contains pictures, graphics or logos remember to include their individual files as well. Please specify all fonts used by their correct name.

If scans are supplied, the minimum resolution should be 200 to 300 DPI for greyscale and colour files and 600 to 1200 for bitmap images.

Please ensure that all colours (especially in Adobe Illustrator) are converted to CMYK if the labels are to be printed by the four colour process method.

When emailing artwork, we recommend that you 'zip it' or make it a self extracting file.

Proofs are usually colour inkjet proofs. Other proofs in the form of Fuji Colour proof or Chromalin proofs can be supplied at extra cost.

You should also note that we often find it necessary to amend or adapt clients supplied artwork to complete our pre-press preparation for our printing processes. These alterations will be charged at our normal artwork rate.

Bleeds - Artwork should have at least 2mm bleed around all edges.

Probably the most common errors made when sending artwork to us are MISSING FONTS, MISSING EPS or TIFF files, MISSING PICTURES or CMYK artwork containing TOO MANY COLOURS. These errors can be very time consuming and are costly to put right. These costs are chargeable to the customer.

If you are supplying negatives they must be 'Emulsion UP, Right reading'. Before producing any negs please phone us first to ensure that you are aware of all of our specific requirements.
